 The KSOU was established on 1st June 1996 vide Karnataka Government, Notification NO. ED 1 UOV95 dated 12th February 1996, KSOU Act 1992, keeping in view the educational needs of our country in general & the Karnataka state, in particular. It is the 8th Open University in the country.
It is also the member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as well as Commonwealth Universities Association. It is also a recognized member university of Distance Education council (DEC), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.

Admission Qualification
Admission is open to those who have completed their 10+2 in any discipline or its equivalent a 3 year Polytechnic Diploma from State Technical Board after 10th standard.
Course Duration
The course duration will be 3 years comprising of 6 semesters but the candidate will have to complete the program within 6 years from the session of enrolment.
BBM
Admission Qualification
The candidate seeking admission to the BBM curse must have passed Pre- University/ Higher Secondary/ 10+2 Examination or equivalent of any recognized Board/ council in any discipline.
The candidate who has successfully completed 3 years of polytechnic diploma from State Technical Board after 10th standard is also eligible to take admission in the first semester of BBM.
Course Duration
The course duration for BBM will be 3 years comprising of 6 semesters but the candidate will have to complete the program within 6 years from the session of enrollment.
M.SC (IT)
Admission Qualification
The entry to this Post Graduate stream is for candidates with Bachelor’s degree in any discipline & who have completed their 6 months computer Diploma or pursuing the 6 months foundation course. All the BCA/BE/ B.Tech/ B.Sc(Computer Science) degree holders are eligible to take direct admission to the 1st semester of M.SC (IT). By completing all the 4 semesters of the programming, thet will be able to get the degree of Master of Science in IT.
Course Duration
The course duration of M.SC (IT) will be 2 years comprising of 4 semesters but the candidate will have to complete the course within 4years from the session of enrollment.
MBA (FE)
Admission Qualification
A candidate seeking admission in MBA (FE) program should have passed Bachelor’s degree from Recognized University in any discipline. For General Category candidate, minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate is required in qualifying examination. For SC/ST category candidate minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate is required in qualifying examination.
The candidate who has passed Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with less than 50% of marks in aggregate & have three years of experience at Supervisory/ Managerial/ Professional level are also eligible.

M.TEC (IT)
Admission Qualification
A candidate seeking admission in M.TEC (IT) program should have passed BE/ B. TEC./AMIE in any discipline or MCA/M.SC (CS)/M.SC (IT)/ MIT/ MCM or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Course Duration
The course duration will be 2 years comprising of 4 semesters but the candidate will have to complete the course within 4 years from the session of enrollment.
